Tasks are organized and presented in a practical, sequential outline. A simple "one-step-at-a-time" approach is used. How Ground Work relates to and influences Mounted Work will be addressed through-out the program. Development of body language and equine communication skills are prioritized. You will learn to read your horse and how to use your body language to communicate clearly with him in a way that is natural to your horse. You will also learn to understand and predict your horse’s behavior. Using passive methods, you will learn to influence your horse in a positive way, shaping him to be a willing and cooperative partner The Progressive Training Methods blends the best of both traditional and contemporary natural-horsemanship methods. Safety for you and your horse is constantly stressed. You will be exposed to a variety of equine personality types and handling variations that accommodate their differences. You will learn to assess your horse’s personality type and to determine what training approach to use. Guidance will be offered in setting realistic goals for your horse’s progress, and for yourself. You will be introduced to a variety of training equipment, which I have available at my farm. You will learn how to fit and use the equipment effectively, and how to evaluate your horse’s individual needs, so that you can choose the equipment and methods most suitable for him. The classes are usually held once a week and are limited to 6 participating students. The class consists of demonstrations, observations, and hands-on work for students using a variety of horses, of all breeds, ages and training levels. Auditors are welcome. It takes 4 sessions to complete one level. You will receive a certificate of achievement upon successful completion of a level. There are 10 Levels in all to complete the Basic Training Program. How many levels you choose to do, is up to you. You can pay for each Level as you go. Helmets (available), gloves, safe shoes or boots, and a smile, are required when handling the horses. We meet at Golden Gait Stable. There is a large indoor and lighted outdoor arena, an indoor and outdoor round pen, and a lounge available. Students who successfully complete all 10 levels are welcome to continue and advance their training with Juli privately. The fee for each Level, consisting of 4 sessions is: $150. This includes use of equipment, horses, and helmets. To get a head start as you start this program, we recommend that you read Juli’s book “Starting Smart”, which is available for purchase for $30.
